June Favorites: Beauty & Hair

It has been hot, hot, HOT!

#ClimateChangeIsReal

Honestly, I have completely switched up my beauty routine for this crazy weather lately. I normally do up my moisturizing for the heat, but my skin has been oilier than in past summers. Also, I honestly have not been wanting to feel so much product on my face, that I temporarily stopped trying too many products hitting the market for summer. This past month, my skin and makeup routine, in particular, have placed a focus on natural ingredients (as natural as I can get at ULTA), quick application, and hydration.

I was attempting to grow my hair for the entire month so that when I get my (now overdue!) cut, it looks extra fresh, layered, and low-maintenance. So I began to treat my color-treated hair better and going mostly heat-less with my styling, as well as not drying it out by washing it so much. It’s looked this this for most of June!

Batiste Dry Shampoo in “Original”: This is one of my all-time favorite dry shampoos; affordable, fresh, effective. More scents and colors available.

AVEDA Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Cream: I bought this at my favorite hair salon in Yakima (Studio 16) after a session with my stylist, Bree a while back. I have naturally wavy, but frizzy, hair and I hadn’t had an anti-frizz serum in my routine for a while. I am so glad that I began to use this last month because I have finally gotten my locks under control! I use about a quarter-sized amount in my hair post-shower and let it air dry. Once dry, I do not even need to brush it before I can run my fingers straight through my hair. No trouble at all. This makes my hair really bouncy and shiny as well. Treat yourself to this!

P.S. I have also eliminated blow drying my hair for the summer.

AVEDA Be Curly Curl Enhancer: This is another one of those products that I hadn’t used in a while because I learned how to style my lob and wanted to curl it with my flat iron every day.

*eyeroll.

This product is a little heavier than the serum and with a cleaner, more citrus-concentrated scent. I use this if I am going out and do not want to fuss with my hair. I scrunch a bit of this into my hair and maybe braid a few pieces. Once I’ve been out more a little while, I can undo them and it’s like I styled my hair with a wand. If the frizz taming serum did not grab your attention, get yourself this curl enhancer and thank me later.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen: This is a no-brainer. A good SPF strength in an easy-to-use spray bottle.

Suave Smoothing Body Lotion: Cocoa butter & shea are exactly what my dry skin has been craving! The scent is not heavy whatsoever, rather it’s a bit calming. The application is so smooth because it’s like my skin absorbs the product as soon as I start to rub it in. It’s the one classic must-have body lotion that I did not know I needed in my life. This was gifted to me by Suave & Influenster, but this review represents my own thoughts and opinions. You can’t treat yourself to more of a steal than $2!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser: I love, love this treatment! If you have not already tried the Tea Tree range from The Body Shop,  you and your skin are severely missing out. Although this treatment does indicate that it can be used as a setting layer or primer before your foundation (there are better primers out there, tbh), using it as a gel to mattify my face in this humid and hot weather has worked wonders for me! It’s also a plus that my pores looks 3x as small when I apply it.

SunBum Sunscreen Lip Balm w/ SPF 30 in “Pomegranate”: Honestly, I had never understood the importance of taking care of my lips during the hot summer months. This lip balm goes on so smoothly and it smells fantastic!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in “Black Satin Finish”: I don’t wear too heavy of eye looks anymore, but this little sample that I received is all that I have been needed, although I do plan to purchase the full-size once I run out of this. Here’s why. This liner is like the gel pencils that we used in middle school to heart our “i”s…only luxurious because it is Marc Jacobs. It is a dark black, but not too harsh. It has an amazing glide and it’s waterproof, so no problem when I start to sweat a bit in the afternoon.

Hand Painted Make-Up from Costa Rica by JJCaprices: I purchased this item from my friend, Jen, and her online global accessories boutique, JJCaprices, about two years ago. This little bag is not only sturdy and well-made, it fits all of my must-have summer products, and adds the perfect amount of summer to even jeans and a white t-shirt. It’s also naturally dyed and washable. This Toucan design is SOLD OUT, but you definitely have a great deal of options. 🙂
